Based on the real-life story of Teket, a Civil War soldier who, after having experienced the horrors of war, walks home to Louisiana after being captured by the Union Army.
When asked to sign a parole form, he escapes, killing a soldier turned bounty hunter in the process. Having no supplies, he is pursued by another bounty hunter who wants only to kill him in revenge for the death of his brother. On his journey he finds letters written by soldiers on both sides of the conflict. Armed with these letters and dreams of home, Teket must struggle with being hunted, starvation, loneliness, and madness. Using the letters to keep his sanity and the occasional companionship of those he meets, he journeys homeward.
